This is my style of fishing charter the aim of the trip is to catch you fish and make it as positive and enjoyable as I can it is not a case of sitting back in comfort and hoping it will happen you can do that at home and watch it on tv,I will help you to achieve a good catch of a variety of good fish if wind and currents are a bit against us we have to work a bit harder or fish closer to shore and usually achieve a result if you have any requests on how you would like the trip to go feel free to talk to me and I will try to customise the trip as long as it is practical. While we are catching eaters a kingfish can dive in and take a bait or we could have a livebait out if it is practical. Purpose built for diving or fishing on Wellington's west coast Felix is licensed for up to 5 fishermen and has a safe ship management system with a top MSA safety rating.Here are a few photos of some of the things we do, certain fish are seasonally available and I have a pretty good idea of their movements so time of year and weather/tidal conditions dictate what we fish for. I have included the tarakihi photo because we often have tarakihi and blue cod as the option but make no mistake when the conditions are right you can be getting the bigger fish and there are a few crays around. If you are not so much into serious fishing we can just go down the coast and fish, dive, snorkel even go ashore if the sea is calm, you can easily snorkel for paua in shallow water and the odd crayfish can be around for a real wild west coast experience. If you can organise a small group of your friends or workmates I can get you out anytime in my 21ft cat. If you are visiting the region and without transport I can organise it and have you back on time. There is good accomodation available in the Porirua City region which I can organise. If there are more than 4-5 of you I have a 45ft launch available and tackle for up to 12. Lunches Usually BYO on Felix to maximise the fishing time, but they can be provided on request. If requested we can have a cup of tea / coffee available as you arrive, good if you've come a few miles. Also a bbq can be provided for lunch or breakfast can be ready for you if requested on the bigger boat. we can cook some fish too. Information for total beginners There are various charters for fishermen, join a group of strangers, this is ok and you will learn something but if you are part of a large group you will probably not receive much personal help and ask how many others you will be sharing with, these charters are better if you know whats what. also you may not have too much say in where and what you do. The bigger boat has more facilities. Make up your own group and book the entire boat, better option, you can decide as a group what type of fishing you want and we will do our best to deliver, also you can say what time you want to leave and return. One on one tuition, go for the smaller boat with your own group of like minded people and we can basically show you the ropes without being stretched, joining in as an individual here is ok as I am right by you. On the bigger boat if you want more of a training type trip let me know and I can put on another person to help out while I do the training. Tackle to Bring If you have your own tackle then you should bring a 24kg set with 50lb+ nylon or braid, we use 80lb braid on our hire tackle braid is best when groper fishing or you wont feel the bite A 10kg set with lighter line. Hooks, bring rigs with either15/0 - 16/0 circle or 14/0 powerbaiter/easibaiter hooks tied to heavy mono approx 1.8mm dia, some lumo tubing is good. have 60 - 80lb mono sacrificial trace tied to the bottom and to the sinker. For inshore fishing we usually use strong 1/0 or 2/0 flasher rigs or bare hooks but a variety is good. Sinkers, 30oz for groper plus say 24oz if the weather is calmer. For inshore or deeper water tarakihi a selection of 4oz - 12oz is recommended If snapper fishing in the summer 5/0 flasher rigs or just hooks are good plus a running rig of a medium sized ball sinker and 1m long trace of 60lb with a couple of 6/0 sharp recurve hooks. We have 7 groper rods and 15 inshore sets available for hire but I need to know beforehand how many to bring. Visability can be 30m at places like hunter bank and inshore you could expect 10m on average, more after offshore winds and no rain. Water temperature can be up to 21 deg C midsummer on the west down to 10 deg midwinter, the south coast is usually cooler in the summer. The west coast offers different diving to the south Wellington coast and we can visit both, we have beginner level or adventurous dive sites for all interests. Hire gear and fills can be arranged. The boat can take up to 6 divers. There is user friendly entry and exit. We run from single dive trips up to day trips. On Friday's we run a regular relaxed trip diving, fishing, spearfishing or whatever for $100 each let me know it is this option if you want it , say the Friday club trip. If you are after a dive trip you must be self suficient ie with a dive leader and any special safety equipment because we are not a specialised dive charter boat.
