Additional Terms & Information

- Life jackets - Make sure you have a properly-fitted life jacket for each person on board. Often boat rentals will require children to wear theirs at all times. - Fire extinguisher - Most boats are required by law to have an approved, fully-charged fire extinguisher on board. - Flares/signaling devices - Boats should also be equipped with daytime/nighttime visual distress signals in case of emergency. Know how to use them. - Navigation lights - If operating after sunset or before sunrise, boats must display proper navigation lights - a green light on the starboard, red on the port, and white at the stern. - Passenger limit - Do not exceed the maximum capacity listed on the boat. Overloading can cause stability issues. - Operators - The operator should be at least the minimum age required, typically 16-18 depending on horsepower. All passengers should remain seated whenever the boat is moving. - Life jackets for towed activities - Anyone tubing, skiing, wakeboarding must wear a life jacket. Do not allow anyone to place feet/arms outside the boat. - Alcohol prohibition - Most states prohibit drinking alcohol if operating a boat or watercraft. This significantly impairs judgment and reaction times. - Weather/conditions - Only go out when weather is safe - no severe storms. Be mindful of water temperatures if risk of hypothermia exists.
