Stardust Boat Trips Portree, Isle of Skye

With Captain

Stardust Boat Trips Portree We have 4 boats with the same coding. All of our vessels are fully licensed and insured to hold 12 passengers and 2 crew members, with an experienced crew to make your trip as enjoyable and informative as possible. Our Vessels and Trips: Portree Bay Trip This trip lasts approximately 2 hours. Leaving Portree Harbour, we sail by the sandy beach at Camus Bàn then on through Portree Bay past the old village of Scorr. We then approach the Scarf Caves, located on the North side of Ben Tianavaig where there is an abundance of birdlife - Shags, Cormorants, Black Guillemots and Rock Doves to name a few. The North side of Ben Tianavaig is where we begin to encounter the territory of a pair of White-Tailed Eagles and the stunning scenery of the Sound of Raasay. We then sail on to a seal colony off the West side of the Island of Raasay, located inside Holoman Bay. On the return journey we take in as much of the wildlife that is available on the day with regular sightings of Dolphins, Porpoise and Whales during the summer months. This trip takes place aboard MV Stardust. Sound of Raasay Trip This trip lasts approximately 2 hours. Taking advantage of the size and sea-keeping qualities of Stardust II, we can go further afield to take in more wildlife and scenery. Depending on reports, sightings or weather conditions we can decide to go North or South into the Sound of Raasay. As we cover a greater distance this trip gives us much more opportunity of encountering other Wildlife including our resident White-tailed Eagles and Seal colonies. Our Northbound trip takes in the breathtaking Red Caves of Raasay, as well as offering picturesque views of the Old Man of Storr and Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Cave, along with Holm Island’s superb bird sanctuary. Our Southbound trip takes us along the stunning East face of Ben Tianavaig, before crossing the Sound to the magnificent seal colony of Holoman Bay, beautifully backdropped by Raasay’s extinct volcano, Dun Caan, among many other special sights. Our Sea Eagle and Wildlife Sea Safari covers the Southern half of the Sound of Raasay from Churchton Bay and Braes in the South to Loch Arnish and Bonnie Prince Charlie's Cave to the North. On this tour we have regular sightings of Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Seals, Puffins (in season) Dolphins, Porpoise, Whales and Basking Sharks (in season) and various species of Seabirds. This trips takes place aboard MV Stardust II and Wavedancer. Sea Eagle Trail (RIB tour) Skye’s and Raasay's rugged coastline is home to a multitude of different species of bird and marine life, but it’s also steeped in history. Our journey starts at the foot of the North side of Ben Tianavaig where you’ll discover the Scarf Caves, carved out of the rock over Thousands of years. We then follow a route round Ben Tianavaig to its east face, where Sea Eagles have established a territory since the late 1970s. We then journey across to Raasay's west coast, covering the territory of another pair of Sea Eagles, in addition to an impressive Seal colony on Holoman Island, a small tidal island. We then carry on up North, passing the Queens Beach, to Raasay's magnificent Red Sea Caves and then back over towards Bonnie Prince Charlie's cave on the Skye shore and then South past the impressive Sea Cliffs rising to 370 metres from sea level before a safe navigation back to Portree Harbour. Join us for a fabulous tour featuring some of the best Sea Caves, Sea Cliffs and Sea-nery the west coast of Scotland has to offer. This trip takes place aboard Saorsa of Skye, our RIB. Skye Whale Trail (RIB tour) Spend 3 hours with us as we depart Portree harbour and head north towards Holm Island and its fantastic bird sanctuary. We’ll pass many notable landmarks including Bearreraig Bay, Mealt Falls, Brothers Point and, of course, the famous KIlt Rock! Keep your eyes peeled as we head further North into the Minch following the whale trail passing down towards the Isle of Rona and North West Raasay. There is also a potential stop-off on the Isle of Rona for around 20 minutes, featuring the best of Highland hospitality - a story and a dram! As with all of our trips you can expect to come across a huge variety of wildlife including Whales, Dolphins, White Tailed Sea Eagles and much more. However, on this particular trip you’ll also be introduced to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) such as the Trotternish Ridge which is significant for several scientific reasons. A budding geologist on this tour may take an interest in the massive landslides that took place in this area whereas the mountain vegetation surviving above 450m may pique the interest of a keen botanist. This trip takes place aboard Saorsa of Skye, our RIB.
