Drag Race Jet Ski: Your Safety Guide & Rules Personal Safety Precautions: - No alcohol or drugs before or during jet skiing. - Always wear life jackets while on the jet ski or in the water. - We recommend and provide neoprene shorts for comfort and safety. - Ensure you are comfortable swimming and being in the water. - Stay hydrated by bringing water with you or you can purchase at the Marina store. - Apply sunscreen to protect your skin. - Protect your phone with a waterproof case or bag. - Be mindful of what you bring with you - remember, you risk losing any items in the water, such as hats, sunglasses etc. - Always heed the instructions and hand signals from your guide. - Physical Fitness: Sea jet skiing can be physically demanding and may cause strain to the body. Therefore, it is not advisable for individuals with back issues, mobility challenges, or other physical conditions that could be adversely affected. Understanding the Jet Ski: - Familiarize yourself with the start and stop mechanism. - Learn the basics of jet ski operation, including the power required for turning and maintaining an optimum speed on the water. - Never surpass the guide's speed or position. Navigating the Marina: - Do not exceed the speed limit of 10km/hr within the marina, to avoid creating wakes. The guide will signal when you’ve fully exited the marina which is past the last large red buoy. - Keep to the right while navigating the marina. - Follow the guide at a safe distance, always respecting other vessels in the marina. - When leaving and returning, trail the guide in a line and wait for their signal before docking. - Approach the dock at a slow pace, prepared to use the stop and reverse functions if needed (we will practise this during your trip so you are prepared to dock.) - Once instructed, switch off the jet ski. The guide will assist you in tying up the jet ski and disembarking. Operating on the Sea: - Maintain an optimum speed based on the conditions and your experience level. Always follow the guide's lead. - Once in the bay, stay to the right of the guide when heading out, and to the left when returning to the marina. - Don’t trail directly behind another jet skier - instead, maintain a side-by-side formation as instructed by your guide, keeping a minimum distance of 50 yards/meters apart. – See Diagram - Do not chase each other or other boats. - Refrain from wake jumping. - Always look before you turn and ensure you have a clear path, - Maintain a safe minimum distance of 50 yards/meters from other crafts on all sides. - The guide will always be closest to the shore, so do not attempt to go closer. - Pay attention to your environment for any unexpected obstacles or wildlife. - Do not attempt to beach the jet ski. - In case you fall off, swim to the jet ski and reboard from the rear. - Remember you need to reconnect your key lanyard before the engine will start. - In case of mechanical issues, remain on the jet ski and wait for the guide's assistance. - If jet skiing during whale season, maintain a safe distance from any whales. Your guide will provide instructions. Mooring & Disembarking: - If your tour includes a beach stop, the guide will instruct you on how to approach the mooring. - Approach the mooring at a very slow pace, one at a time when called forward by your guide. - Secure all your belongings in a waterproof bag and seal it tightly. - Wait for the guide's instruction to disembark the jet ski. - Carefully board the boat that will take you to the shore. - If you disembark to swim, avoid swimming between jet skis and always reboard from the rear.
