The Skipper The owner and operator of Lake Burley Griffin Cruises is Jim Paterson, who has lived in Canberra (with his wife Virginia) since the early 80s. Jim had a long and successful career in broadcasting and television before turning his attention to the water in 2003. His entertaining and well-researched commentary is one of the highlights of your lake cruise. Boat. The MV Gull was added to the fleet in October 2009, increasing the passenger carrying capacity and enhancing our range of services. The Gull was converted to all electric in 2012.
