Get insurance qualified to Bareboat Charter! Most insurance companies require 40-hours of instruction on a similar sized vessel. For this reason, we begin training from Day 1 on the 46' Lagoon 450. See below why we are not an ASA school. The 40-hour on-water training is broken up into ten 4-hour sessions. Sessions can be either Group or Private. 1. Group sessions can have up to 3 trainees but don’t require 3 trainees to schedule a session. If no other trainees schedule in the scheduled time slot, the lesson is still conducted. Each trainee can bring one guest. Most of our customers are couples that are getting trained together. There is no additional charge for the guest. 2. Private sessions are you and the instructor with limit of 11 guests. Group Lessons $650 per 4-hour lesson ($1000 discount for 10-lesson Package payment) Private Lessons $950 per 4-hour lesson ($1000 discount for 10-lesson Package payment) Our training is based on curricula from NauticEd. “The Only Sailing Education Body Recognized by the US Coast Guard and NASBLA as meeting the American National Standards.” Our training is not ASA training even though all of our instructors are ASA certified. "Why would I do the NauticEd training with you when I can do the ASA 101-114 courses at an ASA school and go bareboat charter a large catamaran?” - ASA training is not bad. All of our instructors are ASA certified instructors. Customers have told us that “ASA training is like initial scuba training. It gets you started. But to feel comfortable being in command by yourself, you need to learn a lot more." We have had a number of customers come to us after completing the ASA training with the statement “I’ve done the ASA courses, now I need to learn how to sail.” and “I learned a lot of things with Chris that you just don’t get in the 114 and things made a lot more sense compared to an instructor pressured to get you finished because you have to pass this course." The reason for our school being created is that our USCG licensed and ASA certified instructors that have taught and still teach the ASA courses recognized a need that wasn’t being addressed by the ASA training. The ASA 114 training is either a two-day or one-week course that during the on-water training usually has a crowd of trainees on-board. The amount of hands-on-the-wheel practical hours under way is extremely limited. Our instructors did not feel comfortable turning a customer loose on a $1M yacht based solely on them having completed the ASA 114 course. Schedule Lesson 1 then decide if you want to complete the other 9!
