Tulamben Although the famous USAT Liberty shipwreck is the main attraction for divers at Tulamben, there are several other great sites there too. At the eastern end is the famous Tulamben Drop-Off, a sheer wall teeming with marine life. Further around there are vast slopes and rock formations dropping into the deep and the reef in the main bay has been a favorite for some of the world’s top photographers for many years. All of this coupled with very little current, makes absolutely perfect conditions. All the diving here is shore diving over pebble rocks. USAT Liberty Wreck The Liberty shipwreck is Bali’s most popular dive site and suitable for all levels of qualification and experience. Situated only 30 meters offshore, it lies at depths from 4 to 30 meters. The wreck is completely covered in healthy soft and hard corals, as well as sponges, and the numerous structural holes provide endless opportunities for exploration. Fish life is simply overwhelming with about 400 different species of reef fish. Sweetlips, snappers, puffers, fusiliers, surgeonfish, batfish, trevallies, marbled groupers, garden eels, blue spotted rays, alongside a big variety of macro life and sometimes (great) barracudas, turtles, napoleon wrasse and bumphead parrotfish (the latter sleeping in the hull at night) – only to name a few. Tulamben Drop-Off/ Wall Tulamben Drop-Off is located at the other end of Tulamben bay. The reef consists of three coral covered lava spurs that plummet down to approx. 60 meters with an overhang at around 18 meters. This is a shore dive starting on a steep sand slope – macro lovers, watch out for nudibranchs and shrimps! At 12m you can find sponges with many varieties of shrimp, as well as crinoids, often with attendant ghost pipefish. Continuing round, the slope develops into a vertical wall which then reverts to a steep slope. The fish life is similar to that found on the wreck but being a much larger area, it is less dense. However, more often than on the USAT Liberty Shipwreck, you will see white-tip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse or a school of big-eyed trevallies – remember to look out into the blue!! Coral Garden The shallow slopes here drop to a maximum depth of 25 meter and are home to all manner of macro delight. Marine life is extremely diverse. Ribbon eel, octopus, anemone fish, harlequin shrimp, moray eel, reef sharks and many juveniles are some of the species you may expect to see during your dive This site is one of our instruction sites and is suitable for all dive levels Highlights beautiful dive sites Suited for all divers Visibility 15 - 30 meters None to mild current Extraordinary diversity of marine life Great photographic opportunities and colour contrast with the black sand.
