It is a Wetland of International Importance (RAMSAR), it is located in the southern part of the province of Veraguas, in the districts of Montijo, Sona, Rio de Jesus, Mariato and Santiago. It covers a total area of 89.452 hectares between sea and land area. In the Gulf of Montijo we can find approximately 13.7% of the country’s mangroves (about 23.439 hectares), certainly extraordinary source of wealth. It is one of the main fishing areas in the Panamanian Pacific and it represents 8% of the total mangrove cover in the Central Pacific. It’s a great opportunity to see wildlife in these ecosystems. You can observe numerous birds, crustaceans, fish, reptiles and amphibians. We will visit islands of great importance in this wetland, known as Tres Islas Island, where we enjoy of a beach day, depending on tidal conditions, and then we visit Leones Island, in it we will taste a delicious lunch with assorted seafood and fish. We suggest stopping in Leones Island and taste the famous seafood tray of Mr. Pedro, it includes lobster, fried fish, fried plantains, rice with coconut and black shell.
