Not only is the river, and the jungle surrounding it, beautiful and ecologically-rich, but the natural acidity of the water keeps mosquitoes at bay. Day 1: Ariau River - Lake Acajatuba - Anavilhanas - Terra Preta Village Depart from David's Marina at 10 a.m. via motorized canoe, arriving at the Ariau River and the awaiting the boat at around 11 a.m. After being welcomed on-board Lo Peix by the crew and having made yourself at home in the cabins, a brief meeting will be held to go over the boat's facilities and to inform you of what awaits over the coming days. We take our lunch on-board and sail into the Ubin Ecological Park. We navigate to Lake Acajatuba where we have the option of bathing with the curious and incredible pink Amazon River dolphins. Later we sail along the Negro River, and the great maze of uninhabited islands of the Anavilhanas Archipelago National park, a protected area of 350,000 ha and more than 600 islands. We wind our way through this river paradise of islands and white sand beaches (depending on water level) to the village of Terra Preta to meet the local indigenous community and learn about their way of life, including the strange fruit and tubers of their diet. We visit a traditional Maloca, the communal house where elders pass down stories by word of mouth to younger generations and shaman perform rituals to connect to their ancestral spirits. After further navigation of the Negro we will enter the Igapo, or black-water flooded forest, of the Mucuras River by small canoe, to experience different tree, aquatic and terrestrial species. At night you have the chance to observe nocturnal animals and admire the millions of stars of the southern hemisphere constellations. Day 2: Cuieras River - Arara Lake - Jungle Walk This morning we take a motorized canoe ride or paddle canoes through the enchanting Igapo (flooded forest) region between the Múcuras and Cuieras Rivers. In the Cuieras River there are amazingly 5 different indigenous communities, the Kambebas, Desanas and Bares amongst others. Later we navigate to Arara Lake for a rainforest walk. Silently we listen and watch out for the animals of the jungle, as we walk amongst ancient trees and entangled liana vines. If we are lucky we'll observe some group of monkeys, parrots and maybe toucans. We return to the boat at dusk. For those who do not opt for the optional activities of a nocturnal walk or overnight jungle camp there will be a night canoe ride to observe the nocturnal wildlife, such as birds, crocodiles, frogs and snakes. Day 3: Tarumancinho River - Vila Paraiso - Manaus As the day dawns we begin navigation towards Manaus on the Negro River to its Tarumancinho tributary where we will stop at a beach for bathing (depending on the water level). We pay a visit to Vila Paraiso, a reconstruction of an old rubber plantation, where we can see the daily life of rubber tappers, and the entire production process for the once invaluable product. We can see and touch tools, visit the replica home of a Rubber Baron and attend a live cutting and extraction (milking) of a Seringa (rubber) tree. This is a good time to explain some of the history of colonization of Amazonia by the Portuguese and Spanish. We have lunch on board while sailing to Manaus, where we disembark at Marina David. Optional Service: • Swimming with wild pink dolphis: $20 USD per person • Overnight Camping in the Jungle: $60 USD per person • Nocturnal jungle walk: $20 USD per person • Electric kayak ~ $ 25 USD per person • Tree climbing ~ $220 USD per person • Hydroplane flight (30 min): $250 USD per person (up to 4 people) If you have any questions, we can answer those through GetMyBoat’s messaging platform before you pay.
