Trip times: September-April Ability: Suitable for anyone Minimum age: 10 years Trip duration: Day trip ex Christchurch Trip Prices: - River rafting day trip: Priced from $135.00 - Raft Fishing day trip: Priced from $250.00 Flowing out of lake Sumner through an isolated sub-alpine valley. The Hurunui is around a 1.5-hour drive north of Christchurch. The start of the trip puts you right among the action with a riverside safety briefing to start then we are straight into the good fun grade 3 river rapids of “Maori Gully.” There are various access points above “Maori Gully” for those who just wish to observe from the safety of dry land. Maori Gully owes its name to the people who once used the area as a route to the West Coast Pounamu (Greenstone) fields. From, Kaiapoi they would travel through the Lake Sumner area, across the main divide and down Taramakau River to the Arahura. The lower reaches of the river lead us to the famous “Hawarden Gap” barely wide enough for our rafts. After navigating The Gap, a scenic gorge follows where a dip or a plunge into the refreshing waters of the Hurunui may be on the cards if you are game enough. Following the trip lunch & refreshments will be supplied before returning to Christchurch. If you have any questions, we can answer those through GetMyBoat’s messaging platform before you pay.
