You will see not only the Meeting of the Waters, but also the wildlife-rich Janauary Ecological Park. Day 1: Manaus - Meeting of the Waters - Amazon River - Lake Janauary Depart from David’s Marina at 10 AM. After being welcomed onboard by the crew and having made yourself at home in the cabins, a brief meeting will be held to go over the boat's facilities and to inform you of what awaits over the coming days. As you set sail for the Negro River you will have the opportunity to see some of Manaus’ most famous sights such as the Negro River Bridge, the spectacular Teatro Amazonas and the Meeting of the Waters. From here we sail to Catalan Lake, where the locals live in floating houses. Here we have the opportunity to catch the largest freshwater fish in the world giant Pirarucu (catch and release), and the dreaded red piranhas of the Amazon. Entering the small natural channels around Paracuba Island we make our way to Lake Janauary Ecological Park, where we navigate the varzea lakes formed by the seasonal flooding and observe different species of birds, monkeys and reptiles. We have our lunch in a typical floating restaurant before taking a short walk through an elevated walkway to the Lake of the Victoria Amazonica (the giant Amazon water lily). We continue to navigate on the Negro River to the beach or lake Caioue Tupé, depending on water level. Day 2: Tucano Village - Jungle Walk - Sítio Palmeiral Reserve This morning we wake early to welcome the dawning of the day, an excellent time to spot wildlife, especially birds which are most active at this time of day. Later we pay a visit to the Indian village of Tucano, to learn about their way of life on the river. Afterwards we navigate to the Sítio Palmeiral Reserve in the east end of the Anavilhanas National Park, where we will take a walk in the jungle. Accompanied by an expert guide we learn about the flora and fauna of the region that are important to the local communities in the Amazon. We'll encounter ancient trees and medicinal plants and learn about survival techniques in the jungle, including hunting, fishing, gathering wild fruits and traditional medicine. At the end of our walk we will see a beautiful sunset from the viewpoint of the Tucan. Tonight we head out on a motorized canoe ride to observe the nocturnal wildlife, spotting crocodiles, birds and maybe even snakes. Day 3: Ariaú River - Manaus This morning we take a motorized canoe ride or paddle kayak along the Ariaú River canoe to observe wildlife and visit the majestic giant Samauma tree. Here it is easy to observe groups of monkeys, parrots and waterfowl. If we are lucky we can hear howler monkeys too. It was here, in this river, that the famous Amazon film Anakonda was filmed. We will disembark around 11 a.m. and be transported via motorized canoe back to David's Marina.
