Baobab Dhow Safari Trips Sail away for the day on a traditional Arabic dhow. Our full day adventure departs at 9am from the northern end of Ilha. We sail out of Mossuril Bay, past the mighty Fortaleza de São Sebastião and arrive on the deserted headland of the Cabaceira peninsula where we make our way up to the sacred Baobabs. While the crew prepare a sumptuous seafood lunch, Abdul takes you along the sand dunes to find more paradise. Swim in the sparkling turquoise waters and laze on the dazzling white sands of Varanda beach. Weave in and out with the brightly coloured tropical fish in the crystal clear waters of Coral Lodge lagoon. Explore private beach coves and the miniature eco-systems of myriad rockpools. Enjoy a lunch of locally caught fish carefully prepared by Ayuba with a special blend of fresh lime and piri-piri, traditional hand-grated coconut rice and fresh salads. Relax under the shade of the towering Baobabs and hear stories of the ceremonial practices and rituals that have continued up until recent times. Twist and turn through the tangled mangrove forests to Cabaceira Pequena, visiting the traditional lime kilns and architectural works-of-art. Here you will see the centuries old lime-making process in all its stages. Meanwhile your dhow has sailed around to meet you at the beach. All you have to do now is climb aboard and sail off into the ultimate African sunset. A perfect day.
