Yanmar America Corporation has announced that they will sponsor GetmyBoat’s Joyride sailboat racing team for the 2023–2024 sailing season.
Getmyboat, the world’s largest boat rental and water experience marketplace, and Yanmar, a global leader in marine engine manufacturing, have quite a few things in common. Both align in their missions of nautical sustainability and improving accessibility to boating and water experiences.
Yanmar has long supported mariners, providing solutions with a distinctive combination of experience and innovation, and hopes to deepen its understanding of recreational marine activities through its association with the Joyride racing team.
Yanmar also has a successful history of partnering with sailing teams. YANMAR’s own professional sailing team, YANMAR Racing, has competed in races all around the world in the prestigious Dragon Class, since 2018, and the company has also sponsored the Oracle America’s Cup Team, been involved with the Red Bull Youth America’s cup, and manufacture the high-performance diesel engines that are used on the America’s Cup race management boats.
The Joyride racing team, led by Getmyboat’s own Vice President of Sales Doug Bird, says that his goal is to make racing high performance sailing boats more accessible. “The Melges 32 is a great platform for our mission; it is incredibly fun, fast, and competitive, allowing sailors of any ability to experience high-performance sailing. The team represents an opportunity for people looking to take a step forward in their racing & do so whilst having fun.” This past season, he and the team won the CCV PHRF A - Boat of the year, as well as multiple other trophies.
In addition to supporting marine sports organizations directly, Getmyboat also has made donations to marine conservation organizations for World Oceans Day, to support the sustainable protection of our marine environments.
While both companies pursue excellence in the world of sailing, neither has limited their efforts to a focus solely on sports. Both independently and as partners together, Yanmar and Getmyboat are not only increasing the access to, and the visibility and performance of, boating experiences worldwide, but fighting for the preservation and enjoyment of marine environments for future generations.
