Horsetooth Reservoir, nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills near Fort Collins, Colorado, is a popular boating spot. Enforcing boating regulations there is a collaborative effort involving CPW and Larimer County Natural Resources, with rangers from both agencies patrolling the reservoir and issuing citations for rule violations. Additionally, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as the owners and operators of the reservoir, oversee the maintenance of boat ramps and other facilities.

Short‐Term Concession License:
If you're operating rental boats on the reservoir, you must have permits for all your boats, which should be displayed prominently. Enforcement officers may check the Charter Boat Permit. Boating Safety Certificate:
The Boating Safety Certificate confirms your completion of an approved boater safety course, enabling you to operate motorboats, personal watercraft (PWC), or sailboats in Colorado if you're 16 or older. Aquatic Nuisance Species(ANS) Stamp/Inspection:
Colorado residents must obtain the ANS Stamp when registering their boats and carry proof of purchase while operating the vessel. The stamp is valid for one year and must be purchased each year when registering a boat. Additionally, all boats must undergo an ANS inspection before entering Horsetooth Reservoir. Registration:
Every motorized or sail-powered boat used on public waters in Colorado must be registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.Registration and registration renewals must be completed on an annual basis, and they remain valid from January 1 to December 31 each year.To initiate the boat registration process, fill out the Boat Registration Form.
